FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kin & Core?
Kin & Core is a physiotherapy-led Pilates and pelvic health studio, created to help people move with greater strength, confidence and understanding through every stage of life.
Our approach combines physiotherapy expertise with Pilates and evidence-informed movement to create supportive, personalised experiences for every body.
Who are the classes suitable for?
Our classes are designed for a range of ages, abilities and stages of life — from those completely new to Pilates through to more experienced movers.
We offer classes and support for pregnancy, postnatal recovery, pelvic health, menopause and healthy ageing, alongside general strength and movement.
If you’re unsure which class is right for you, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
I’ve never done Pilates before. Can I join?
Absolutely.
You don’t need to be fit, flexible or experienced to start. Our classes are designed to be welcoming and supportive, with options to adapt exercises to your individual ability.
Do I need to be physically fit to attend?
Not at all.
Kin & Core is about building strength and confidence rather than fitting into a particular idea of fitness. Exercises can be adapted to suit different abilities, starting points and goals.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Bare feet or comfortable grip socks are generally recommended for Pilates.
You don’t need to wear gym clothing or anything technical — just come as you are.
Do I need to bring anything?
You are welcome to bring your own mat. We can provide any other equipment needed for the class as advised by your instructor.
You may wish to bring a bottle of water and, if you prefer, your own mat.
What happens if I have an injury or health condition?
This is where our physiotherapy-led approach can make a real difference.
Please let us know about any injuries, medical conditions, symptoms or concerns when you book. We can discuss whether a group class, individual physiotherapy assessment or another option would be most appropriate for you.
Can I do Pilates during pregnancy?
Yes. Pilates can be a wonderful way to maintain strength, mobility and body awareness during pregnancy.
Our antenatal sessions are designed specifically around the changing body during pregnancy. If you have any pregnancy-related concerns or complications, we recommend discussing exercise with your midwife or relevant healthcare professional before participating.
When can I return to Pilates after having a baby?
Everyone’s recovery is different.
Rather than working to a fixed timeline, we consider your individual recovery, symptoms, birth experience, goals and current level of strength and confidence.
Our postnatal support is designed to help you gradually rebuild strength and reconnect with your body.
Can Pilates help during perimenopause and menopause?
Absolutely.
Changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect strength, muscle mass, bone health, pelvic health, confidence and the way we feel in our bodies.
Our approach focuses on building strength, maintaining movement and helping you feel confident and capable through this stage of life.
Do I need a physiotherapy assessment before joining a Pilates class?
Not necessarily.
Many people can safely join an appropriate group class without an individual assessment. However, if you have an injury, persistent pain, pelvic health symptoms, a medical condition or specific concerns about exercise, an individual assessment may be more appropriate.
If you’re unsure, just get in touch.
What if I’m nervous about joining a class?
You’re very welcome.
We know that walking into a new class can feel daunting, particularly if you haven’t exercised for a while or don’t feel confident in a traditional fitness environment.
Kin & Core is designed to feel supportive, inclusive and non-judgemental. You don’t need to keep up with anyone else — we’ll help you find the right starting point for you.
How many people are in a class?
We keep our classes intentionally small so that you receive guidance, support and individual attention while still enjoying the connection and community of a group.
Class sizes may vary depending on the type of session.
What makes Kin & Core different from a typical Pilates class?
Kin & Core is physiotherapy-led.
That means Pilates and movement are underpinned by clinical knowledge, evidence-informed practice and an understanding of how the body changes throughout life.
Our aim isn’t simply to help you complete a workout. It’s to help you understand your body, build strength and feel confident in movement.
How do I know which class is right for me?
If you’re not sure, don’t worry.
You can contact us before booking and we’ll help you find the most appropriate class or service based on your experience, goals and individual needs.
Where are you based?
Kin & Core is based in the Ribble Valley / Longridge area of Lancashire.
